WW2 Era Italian Fascist Mothers Medal
Offered here is a very nice Italian fascist mother’s medals. During the “Battle of the Births”, Mussolini instituted policies to increase the birth rate of the nation. These medals were given to mothers who had significant amounts of children. There are 12 ribbons on this medal, so there is a possibility one woman gave birth to 12 children. Another thing that happened during the war is that these medals were often sold to GI’s stationed in Italy as apart of the occupation. Italian civilians who found themselves destitute and in need, often sold souvenirs to the GI’s, and frequently added ribbons to these medals as a way of making them more enticing than let’s say a 7 ribbon medal. Either way, a truly fascinating piece of history!
