WWI British Name Engraved Victory Medals Royal Fusiliers
Offered here is a lovely pair of British victory/service medals awarded to a veteran of the First World War. These medals are officially stamped on the rim of each medal with “J-3140 D.D. London R-FUS”. Our research indicates that these medals were awarded to Daniel D. London, who served with the 39th Battalion Royal Fusiliers in 1918. London served in Palestine during the Arabian campaign, and interestingly enlisted from Cincinnati Ohio. The 39th battalion of Royal Fusiliers were known as the “American Battalion” as the British government recruited American Jews to help liberate the holy land from Ottoman Turkish rule. The 39th was apart of what became known as the “Jewish Legion” during the war. London was discharged for sciatica, and eventually died in British Mandate Palestine in 1924. The research attached is only available digitally and the buyer is able to download it to their computer. A very interesting piece of First World War history!
