Civil War Era Confederate Southern Cross of Honor
Offered here is a lovely example of a Southern Cross of Honor. These crosses were created and awarded to Confederate veterans after the war. They’re quite rare, as only 1500 or so crosses were ever made. This cross is particularly interesting because it is name engraved to a member of the Mississippi Calvary.
Columbus Washington Cannon, known as “Uncle Bum” was a private of the 11th Mississippi Calvary Regiment. This regiment was known as “Perrin’s Battalion” during the civil war. Cannon would later die in 1925.
